Jonathan Appell
Producer, Audio Engineer, Educator and VoiceOver artist
Jonathan is a New York City–based producer, engineer, multi-instrumentalist, and AVID-certified Pro Tools instructor with over 35 years of experience in the music and audio industry. He has dedicated his career to helping artists realize their full creative potential, both in the studio and in the classroom.
Jonathan has recorded and engineered for a wide range of acclaimed artists, including Carole King, Bette Midler, Taylor Dayne, Tito Nieves, Joe Williams, and Joe Lynn Turner. His technical expertise has also supported the work of multi-platinum producers such as Trevor Horn, Ric Wake, the Berman Brothers, Keith Diamond, and Arif Mardin.
In addition to making records, Jonathan’s engineering and production work can be heard across hundreds of television and radio commercials, film scores, and theme songs. His credits include major motion pictures like Coyote Ugly and The First Wives Club.
Jonathan is also a passionate educator. He currently teaches post-production audio at the New York Film Academy and music production at Bergen Community College, mentoring students in both the creative and technical aspects of audio production.
As an industry advisor, Jonathan serves on several Audio Educators Advisory Committees, providing expert guidance to leading audio software and hardware developers including Eventide, PSPaudioware, Audiomovers, Empirical Labs, Dreamtonics, Antelope Audio, and Oeksound.
He is a member of the Audio Engineering Society and a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (The Grammys).
